Our legacy

TVET Journal was initiated in 2007 by husband and wife Tom & Mary Norton through their consulting company AESTA Inc. Applied Education Systems and Technologies Associates. Many of the articles on TVET Journal are written by Tom & Mary during their professional career and after retirement.

For more than a decade Tom Norton used to be the President & CEO for the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) – now called Colleges and Institutes Canada, and Mary’s specialty was educational planning.

Since its foundation in 1997, AESTA worked on projects in Canada, Cambodia, Philippines, New Zealand, Hawaii, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Brunei, Oman, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Jordan, Israel and Palestine and Vietnam.

AESTA did education and TVET-related consulting on projects for the Asian Development Bank, Industry Canada, the Canadian International Development Agency, GOPA Germany, SDC Switzerland, the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada, the Association of Canadian Communities and Colleges, the International Development and Research Canada, Qatar Foundation, SMEC Australia, SKM Australia, PINZ New Zealand, Coffey International, Path International and the Swiss Development Corporation.

These projects often included working with national governments in enhancing education systems, and with teams of international consulting companies planning for reforms and enhancement of national education systems’ project planning, monitoring and evaluation.

The new TVET Journal has chosen to build upon this legacy of Tom & Mary Norton and their important pool of work done for the TVET community over more than three decades.
